Harold Grant Looney, 25, of Northern Arizona, passed away on February 17th, 2025. Grant was born May 24th, 1999 in Phoenix, Arizona, the son of Parents Harold “Hal” Burton and Lisa Ann (Farmer) Looney.
Grant’s earliest years were spent working in the shop, shooting at the range, exploring the Coconino National Forest, and tearing it up on ATVs in the Imperial Sand Dunes. Although his life ended devastatingly too soon, it was full of spirit and adventure.
Grant was known for his genuine concern for others, integrity, toughness, intelligence, witty sense of humor, and incredible work ethic. He will be remembered as someone who always stood up for the underdog.
Grant graduated from Basha High School (Chandler, AZ) in 2017. After high school, Grant was accepted into the highly competitive Caterpillar ThinkBIG Program, a proprietary program through Empire Cat in partnership with Mesa Community College. In the ThinkBIG Program, he worked as an Apprentice during his schooling, eventually earning his role as a Lead Technician.
In 2020, he graduated with a degree in Caterpillar Science, obtaining an impressive 35 professional certifications in various heavy equipment operations while maintaining a 3.2 GPA. During his work at Caterpillar, he was known as a safety advocate, a subject-matter expert, a hard worker, and, overall, a young leader. Grant was loved by his colleagues for his strong sense of character and work ethic.
After college, Grant worked as a Dealer Technician at Empire Caterpillar until founding All Pro Rentals in 2022. As the CEO and President of All Pro Rentals, Grant managed a portfolio of construction equipment and property rentals. Grant was known by his clients as a knowledgeable and trustworthy business partner. Despite his young age, he was often mistaken for being well beyond his years, given his wisdom, reliability, and maturity.
One of his many star qualities was his ability to repair and maintain complicated diesel machinery. In addition to managing his equipment rentals, he enjoyed “flipping” equipment: buying broken equipment, diagnosing problems, repairing, and re-selling.
Throughout his entire young career, Grant was a problem solver. He could diagnose and address any problem and provide an ingenious solution unmatched by anyone.
Living on his 40-acre homestead in Northern Arizona, Grant had many amazing hobbies. One special thing about Grant was that across all his interests, Grant had an impressive ability to teach himself new skills as an avid reader and researcher.
Grant was probably most known for his commitment to health and fitness. Many of his friends looked to him for guidance, and he was so patient in providing diet and workout plans to help them reach their fitness goals.
Grant was also remarkably creative; his culinary skills rivaled those of a professional chef, and he was a gifted, self-taught photographer.
One of Grant’s most prominent self-taught hobbies was gunsmithing. He was a master gunsmith and marksman, enjoying skeet shooting, long-range target practice, and hunting. Some of his favorite early memories were spent long-range shooting and dove hunting with his grandfather.
Grant got his first quad at age 4 and grew up riding in the Imperial Sand Dunes and Coconino National Forest. He loved camping, riding ATVs, and cooking for the entire campsite after a long day’s ride. His passion was being outdoors and enjoying nature.
From a young age, Grant was a skilled skier. By adulthood, he was skiing in the backcountry and off-trail. In 2023, he completed his Level 1 Avalanche Rescue Training and had the privilege of saving a real avalanche victim months later.
Grant had three German Shepard mixes, Chevy, Slayer, and Ruger, whom he adored.
Grant’s most recent passions were boating and fishing. In the summer of 2024, he caught a 9-foot Bull Shark off the coast of Clearwater, Florida. He enjoyed all types of fishing, including deep-sea fishing, shore fishing, and even spear fishing during a scuba dive!
Grant was baptized at Corpus Christi Catholic Church in Phoenix, Arizona. Later, Grant joined Mountain View Church in Queen Creek, Arizona, where he rededicated his life to Christ.
Grant joins in Heaven his Grandparents, Patricia Looney (paternal), Alice Kratz (maternal), and Barry Kratz (maternal). Remaining to cherish Grant’s memory are his parents, Hal Looney and Lisa (Farmer) Humphrey; sister, Kathleen (Looney) McClinton; grandfather, Burt Looney; grandfather, Gary Farmer; and many Uncles, Aunts, Cousins, extended family, and friends who loved him deeply.
